2017 Acura NSX is a Mind-Blowing, Breathtaking Supercar
When people think of Acura, they often think of a luxury SUV or elegant performance sedan. Rightly so, because these are the vehicles that are regularly driven around Salt Lake City and Murray. They’re fun and practical, well-equipped and supremely comfortable. But today we want to discuss their elusive cousin- that rare beast, that glorious opus which defies the unimaginative simply by being. The hybrid 2017 Acura NSX.

It’s not always a good idea to hand over the keys to 573 horsepower and 476 pound-feet of torque to someone who doesn’t have a lot of supercar-driving experience. This particular supercar, though, has a motor for each front wheel. Its four-wheel drive technology can correct the small input mistakes made by a less-experienced driver, or just enhance the already stellar driving fun for a pro. It handles perfectly around a track, and it’s easy to drive. Those two do not always come hand in hand.
Acura equipped the NSX with four drive modes, so you can select the appropriate handling for your environment. Quiet mode is electric-only, and lets you stealthily pull into the garage without waking up the neighbors when you get home at midnight. It’s also just incongruously cool to see this thing cruise slowly down the road without the boisterous sounds you’d expect to hear from a supercar that looks this awesome. It’s quietly confident, rather than clamoring for bystanders’ attention because it’s insecure.
Sport mode is great for everyday driving, balancing responsive handling and fuel economy. (And yes, this actually is a car you could be comfortable driving to work all week.) Sport Plus is another step toward Track mode, which maximizes the NSX’s racetrack-bred performance. Its braking power is consistently responsive, and better than most of its competitors.
The 2017 Acura NSX would be a perfect track toy– it wants to go faster than the local law enforcement officers will consider “legal.” But hot laps at Utah Motorsports Campus may not be its only mission in life. The rear trunk of the NSX can fit some groceries or a couple backpacks, and the seats are supportive and comfy. The Acura NSX could make an amazing out-of-the-ordinary commuter car.
